- Handmade needlepoint Christmas stocking belonging to Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas and depicting Santa Claus; the name "Lauren" stitched at the top.
- Historical Notes
- A native of Bloomington, Indiana, Lauren Grandcolas lived in San Rafael, California, with her husband, Jack. They were expecting their first child. An advertising sales consultant for Good Housekeeping magazine, Lauren was also writing a self-improvement book for women. On September 11, she boarded Flight 93 to return home after attending her grandmother’s funeral in New Jersey. She was 38 years old.
Curator's Comment
Hanging the needlepoint stocking made by her mother was always a high point of Christmastime for Lauren Grandcolas. Lauren enjoyed decorating for the holiday season and had made a matching stocking for her husband, Jack. Lauren, an advertising sales consultant for Good Housekeeping magazine, was also writing a self-improvement book for women. Pregnant with the couple’s first baby, she was anticipating the addition of a new stocking to the family’s holiday tradition.
