- Description
- Recovered NYPD police officer identification card issued to Glen Kerrin Pettit, Police Officer. The card includes Pettit's photograph on the right and the NYPD logo on the left and includes his date of birth and shield number. The card is in good condition and shows very light traces of dust.
- Historical Notes
- Born in Manhasset, Long Island, Glen Pettit lived in Ronkonkoma. A police officer, photographer, and videographer, Glen also freelanced as a television news camera operator. In 1997, the NYPD tapped Glen to document rescues for training and promotional videos. On September 11, Officer Pettit reported to the World Trade Center to record the department’s rescue efforts. He was 30 years old.
Curator's Comment
Glen Pettit spent years working behind the camera as a videographer and freelance photographer for multiple news outlets before joining the NYPD Police Academy Video Unit. In this position, Officer Pettit produced training and promotional videos for the Police Department. On September 11, Officer Pettit responded to the World Trade Center to capture footage for a video about managing crises threatening public safety. He was seen at several locations that morning, and other cameramen report that he urged them to evacuate the area. He was last spotted near the South Tower just before its collapse.
