Aluminum Cladding, Recovered

Description
Aluminum covering shaped to encase steel beams.
Historical Notes
A layer of aluminum covered each structural steel column that formed the facades of the Twin Towers. The aluminum alloy was created especially for the World Trade Center and gave the buildings a unique reflective surface. Thin and lightweight, most of the aluminum cladding separated from the steel during the collapse of the buildings on September 11, 2001.
