- Born in Israel, Shai Levinhar met his wife, Liat, in the Israeli military. They moved to the United States in 1996, settling in New York City. In 2001, Shai graduated from business school, and Liat gave birth to their first child. On September 11, Shai was on the North Tower’s 103rd floor, where he was an assistant vice president at eSpeed, a subsidiary of Cantor Fitzgerald. He was 29 years old.
Curator's Comment
Shai Levinhar was born and raised near Tel Aviv, Israel. While serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), he wore these epaulets on the shoulders of his uniform. The silver bars, each embossed with the olive branch of the IDF’s emblem, indicate his rank of seren, or captain. Shai met his wife, Liat, in the military and moved with her to New York City in 1996. Six weeks before 9/11, the couple welcomed their first child. His family arranged for his remains to be buried in Israel.
