- Signed wooden cricket bat used during a memorial match in memory of Nezam A. Hafiz on September 14, 2007. The bat is signed by the players.
- Historical Notes
- Nezam Hafiz was born in Guyana, where he played on the national cricket team as a teenager. He moved to the United States, settled in Queens, and became a member of the U.S. cricket team and captain of the American Cricket Society. Nezam worked at Marsh & McLennan as a computer analyst. On September 11, he was at his office on the 94th floor of the North Tower. Nezam was 32 years old.
Curator's Comment
Cricket, Nezam Hafiz’s mother said, was “all he cared about.” Nezam demonstrated talent for the sport as a teenager growing up in Guyana on South America’s Caribbean coast. At 18, he joined the Guyanese national team. After moving to New York City in 1992, he played for the United States national cricket team, eventually becoming vice-captain. This souvenir bat was signed by participants in a match played in Nezam’s memory in the New York City borough of Queens, where he had resided.
