Stair Handrail, Recovered
- Description
- Recovered stair handrail, rusted. The handrail is painted with luminescent white paint.
- Historical Notes
- Darkened stairways made the descent difficult and lengthened the overall evacuation time on February 26. Battery-powered lights in stairways and luminescent paint on handrails and stairs were installed in response. On 9/11, even though the complex lost power, the World Trade Center’s emergency stairways remained lit.
