- Metal U.S. Army dog tag issued to Richard Cyril Rescorla, circa 1965. The tag is inscribed: "RESCORLA | CYRIL R | 0 05325401 | O POS | PTOTESTANT."

- Richard Rescorla lived in Morristown, New Jersey, with his wife, Susan. He had two grown children. A retired U.S. Army colonel and Vietnam War veteran, Richard was Morgan Stanley’s vice president of security. On September 11, he sang “God Bless America” and songs from his native England as he directed the evacuation of thousands of Morgan Stanley employees from the South Tower. Richard was 62 years old.
Curator's Comment
At the time of the World Trade Center bombing, Richard Rescorla, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, was in charge of corporate security for financial services company Dean Witter and led the successful evacuation of personnel occupying more than 20 floors of the South Tower. When the company returned to its offices in the spring of 1993, Rescorla instituted mandatory safety drills and other measures to strengthen the company’s emergency plans.
On 9/11, Rescorla directed the orderly evacuation of thousands of employees and others at the firm, then known as Morgan Stanley. Rescorla and several colleagues lost their lives returning to assist in the continuing evacuation.
