- American Red Cross NYC Incident Response identification card issued to Rolla Crick. The card includes a photograph, the logo for the American Red Cross, and printed text: "American Red Cross | NYS Incident Response | Rolla | Crick | Expires: | 11.16.2001 | Full Access & Ground Zero." "VOID" has been punched into the card.
- Historical Notes
- Volunteers of every age, background, and ability flocked to Ground Zero, intent on supporting the rescue and recovery operations. Some signed on with organizations such as the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, while others volunteered independently. Access credentials were issued by the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC), and service organizations issued identification cards so that authorized individuals could move freely within their assigned areas. These cards, along with pins and patches, became badges of honor and, eventually, cherished keepsakes.
