- Blue T-shirt created in memory of Joseph Gerard Leavey. On the left breast of the shirt is a Maltese cross and printed text: "In Memory of | Lt. Joseph G. Leavey." Flames and a bull are in the center of the cross with text: "We will never forget." "FD | NY" is printed in the side cross arms; "Engine 4 | Ladder 15" is printed in the top and bottom cross arms. "FDNY | 9-11-01" is printed on the back of the shirt with images of an American flag and the Twin Towers.
- Historical Notes
- Native New Yorker Joseph Leavey lived in Pelham, New York, with his wife, Carole. Two of their three children were still at home. An architecture fan whose favorite buildings were the Twin Towers, Joseph worked as a construction engineer before joining FDNY Ladder Company 15. On September 11, Lieutenant Leavey was heard on a radio transmission on the South Tower’s 78th floor. He was 45 years old.
