- Handwritten note on a piece of torn paper left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Dwayne Williams. Accompanied by an embroidered American Flag U.S. Military uniform patch, the note reads: "Be advised—this flag was worn in combat operations against an armed foe in Zabul Province, Afghanistan by SSG Wilson US Army Infantry 2nd Stryker CAV REG. | RIP | PFC Brown | SSG Engeldrum | SGT Uvanni | LT Bednedson."

- Jacksonville, Alabama native Dwayne Williams lived with his wife, Tammy, and their two teenage children in Lorton, Virginia. Dwayne had been a U.S. Army paratrooper and ranger and served in the Persian Gulf War. Once a college football player, he played softball on his battalion’s team. On September 11, Major Williams was working as a joint officer distribution manager at the Pentagon. He was 40 years old.

The note and accompanying patch were left on the S-74 parapet of the South Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Dwayne Williams on September 11, 2015.
