Stocking
- Description
- Small fabric Christmas stocking left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Maria Ramirez. The stocking is red, green, and white with "Merry Christmas" embroidered in red at the top. A photograph of Ramirez is in the center of the stocking, framed by green felt. Snowflakes and bell embellishments are attached to the stocking.
- Historical Notes
- Brooklyn native Maria Ramirez lived in Canarsie. While they were vacationing in the Dominican Republic in August 2001, Maria’s boyfriend, David, proposed to her. Maria worked as an office manager at Langan Engineering and Environmental Sciences at 90 West Street, across from the Twin Towers. On September 11, she was trapped in an elevator in her building when the South Tower collapsed. Maria was 25 years old.
Curator's Comment
This stocking, along with other tribute items, was left on the S-45 parapet of the South Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Maria Ramirez on December 2, 2016.
