Curator's Comment
A vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald in the North Tower, Danielle Kousoulis had planned to participate in the Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run on September 16, 2001. The half marathon proceeded as scheduled on the Sunday after the 9/11 attacks. During a pre-race ceremony, a moment of silence commemorated Kousoulis and William F. Fallon, two registered participants who were killed at the World Trade Center.
In October 2001, Kousoulis’s parents received a condolence letter from the Philadelphia race’s director, who enclosed the runner’s bib that had been assigned to Danielle, number 5494. He informed them that the race was retiring the number in her memory. William Fallon’s number was also retired.
