- On 9/11, New York City Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit (ESU) teams responded to the unfolding disaster at the World Trade Center. These teams are trained to assist people trapped or injured in dangerous settings. Officer David Brink, assigned to ESU Squad 3, based in the Bronx, carried these handcuffs in his utility belt as he joined rescue efforts in the North Tower.
