Prayer Card, Recovered
- Description
- Recovered prayer card for Patricia Ann Burlingame belonging to Charles F. Burlingame III. The front of the card features a photograph of Patricia with printed text: "In Loving Memory of | Patricia Ann Burlingame | June 26, 1930 - November 8, 2000" followed by a scripture verse. On the back of the card is a poem titled "I Did Not Die." The card is damaged, partially burned, wrinkled, and dirty.
- Historical Notes
- St. Paul, Minnesota, native Charles Burlingame, known as Chic, lived in Oak Hill, Virginia, with his wife, Sheri. A U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Chic was a carrier-based fighter pilot who served 25 years in the Navy, both active duty and reserve. He joined American Airlines in 1979. On September 11, Captain Burlingame was the pilot of Flight 77 departing from Washington Dulles Airport. He was 51 years old.
Curator's Comment
Charles Burlingame was carrying this prayer card with him on September 11, 2001. It was recovered from the crash site at the Pentagon. Burlingame's mother, Patricia, died 10 months prior to 9/11.
