- Suspenders belonging to Wilder Alfredo Gomez. The suspenders have maroon, blue, white, and gray color blocks, with Looney Tunes characters woven in a contrasting color into each block.
- Historical Notes
- A native of Cali, Colombia, Wilder Gomez moved to the United States in 1991. He lived in Brooklyn with his mother and youngest daughter and also had three children living in Colombia. Wilder played soccer and loved to dance. He worked as a waiter and bartender at Windows on the World near the top of the North Tower. On September 11, he was at the restaurant, filling in for a coworker. Wilder was 37 years old.
Curator's Comment
Wilder Gomez’s aunt remembered him as a striking figure: “Le gustaba lucir bien. . .La luz en las fiestas.” (“He liked to look good. . .The life of the party.”) This whimsical pair of suspenders was just one of the multiple Looney Tunes–themed accessories Wilder owned. His mother recalled his love for the cartoons and that he wore the suspenders with his Windows on the World uniform. He took pride in his appearance: when issued a new uniform for his job, he asked her to take a picture of him posing in the outfit.
