- Description
- The Heroism and Patriot Award medal created in memory of John Ernst Eichler. The medal depicts the Society of American Magicians' official logo in the center with “THE SOCIETY OF AMERICAN MAGICIANS, EST. 1902” in raised text around the edge of the medal. On the reverse side is raised text: “THE HEROISM AND PATRIOT AWARD.” This side also has an engraving of part of the lower Manhattan skyline featuring the Twin Towers. The Society of American Magicians' logo sits above the skyline and the Statue of Liberty is in the right foreground. The medal is attached to a red, white, and blue ribbon with a bar pin for affixing it to a uniform.
- Historical Notes
- Born in Bloomfield, New Jersey, John Eichler lived in Cedar Grove with his wife, Peggy. They had raised a son. John belonged to the Society of American Magicians and often did magic tricks for friends. He had worked as a business manager at a law firm before retiring in 1994. On September 11, John was meeting with his investment counselor at Windows on the World, high in the North Tower. He was 69 years old.

The Society of American Magicians annually awards the Heroism and Patriot Award in memory of John to magicians who perform extraordinary deeds.
