- Description
- Ornament created in memory of Lee S. Fehling. The ornament depicts an American flag with a shield in the center and printed text: "IN MEMORY OF | 9/11/01." In the center of the shield is a Maltese cross with "FDNY" written in the top crossbar and "BEDFORD | STUYVESANT" in the bottom crossbar. In the center is printed text: "ENGINE 235 DIVISION II BATTALION 57 | FIREFIGHTER | LEE | FEHLING." A hook and ladder icon is included in the left crossbar and a fire hydrant in the right crossbar. In the left corner of the ornament is a small newspaper cutout that includes a photograph and printed text: "FF LEE FEHLING | Brooklyn | Div. 11 Bat. 57."
- Historical Notes
- Long Island native Lee Fehling lived in Wantagh with his wife, Danielle. They had a four-year-old daughter and were expecting their second child. Lee played the bagpipes in a band and was also skilled at the piano, accordion, saxophone, and clarinet. A firefighter at FDNY’s Engine Company 235, on September 11, Firefighter Fehling was seen heading toward the South Tower. He was 28 years old.
