- Dark gray T-shirt created for the 18th annual D.C. "Forever Running" Memorial 5K Run/Walk event held in memory of Raymond Matthew Downey, Sr. The left breast of T-shirt features an FDNY Deputy Chief of Department badge and printed text that reads: "18th Annual Chief Ray Downey Run | PARATECH." The back of T-shirt features the number 343 outlined in red, inside of which are the printed names of FDNY firefighters killed on 9/11. Above the number 343 is yellow text that reads: "Forever Running" and a graphic depicting an American flag surrounded by text ("FDNY," "SOC," and "9-11-01"), the United States Marine Corps emblem, and an animal wearing a Rescue 2 fire helmet.
- Historical Notes
- Queens native Raymond Downey lived in Deer Park, Long Island, with his wife, Rosalie. They had raised five children. A former U.S. Marine and 39-year FDNY veteran, Raymond was an expert on building collapses and had responded to the bombing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1995. He led the FDNY’s Special Operations Command. On September 11, Battalion Chief Downey responded to the towers. He was 63 years old.
