Prayer Card
- Description
- Prayer card created in memory of Philip T. Hayes, Ret. and left at the 9/11 Memorial. The front of the card features a photograph of Hayes, his name, birth and death date, and a short printed poem. On the back of the card is the Fireman's Prayer. There is a hole punch in the upper left corner of the card.
- Historical Notes
- Brooklyn-born Philip Hayes was the second oldest of 16 siblings. He and his wife, Virginia, lived in East Northport, Long Island, and had four children. Retiring after 20 years at the FDNY, he became the World Trade Center’s fire safety director in 1995. On September 11, Philip rescued children from the day-care center in 5 World Trade Center and helped people evacuate the South Tower. He was 67 years old.

This prayer card was left on the S-13 parapet of the South Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Philip T. Hayes, Ret. on September 11, 2016.
