- Child's handmade marker drawing created by Christoph from Munich, age 11, included in the portfolio from Hermann-Frieb-Realschule in Munich, Germany and sent to students in the United States. The drawing depicts a large red heart with an American flag in the center. Above the heart is the flag of Germany. At the top is handwritten "AN ALLE BETROFFENEN!," which translates as "To All Affected."
- Historical Notes
- Images of the 9/11 attacks had an international reach and so did children’s efforts to respond to them. Teachers around the world encouraged children to use art to reframe the attacks and to reach out to those affected.
