Invitation, Recovered
- Description
- Recovered invitation to a rehearsal dinner, slightly tattered. The invitation was enclosed in the red envelope postmarked “Portsmouth NH | 10 Sept. 2001.” The invitation is designed to look like a large pot with illustrated corn, crab, and vegetables at its base. Printed text on the invitation reads: "What a Catch! | Josie & Rusty are tying the knot...| Join us for a Crab Feast to buoy them up | before the big day! | Friday October 12th | 6:30 p.m. | The Maritime Museum | St. Micheal's Maryland | Jane & Charlie Gaillard | R.s.v.p. by October 5th."
- Historical Notes
- Thousands of pieces of paper filled the sky following the crash of two hijacked planes into the Twin Towers. Carried on air currents, much of the paper landed on streets, rooftops, and yards in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. This piece of mail, postmarked on September 10th in New Hampshire and addressed to a California residence, was likely aboard one of the planes.
