Collected Dust
- Description
- Plastic Ziploc brand bag containing another Ziploc bag filled with collected World Trade Center dust. The outer bag is labeled with handwritten text that reads: "Park Row | near J + R | 6/24/02."
- Historical Notes
- Immediately after the collapse of the Twin Towers, layers of thick gray dust and ash coated streets, vehicles, windows, and the interiors of homes and offices throughout lower Manhattan. The dust was a presence for months. Some people collected dust in an impulse to preserve and document what they experienced. Others collected dust to have them tested for contaminants.
