Memory Fields

Description

Foam core submission board designed for the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition in 2003, titled “Memory Fields.” This design plan proposes keeping the footprints of the towers constantly illuminated with rings of light, one for each victim. A memory stone with the individual's name would cap a unique memory vault where families can select personal objects to memorialize their loved one. An eternal flame at the center of the site would be surrounded by ever-expanding concentric circles emanating beyond the site. Additional enclosures for reflection include a Hall of Light, a processional route known as the Freedom Passage, a Hall of Heroes, Wall of Honor, Hall of Memory, and meditation space.
