- Recovered crumpled, singed, and dust-covered stationery belonging to Avnish Ramanbhai Patel. "Avnish Patel | Research Associate" is printed at the top. "Fred Alger Management, Inc." is printed at the bottom, with the 1 World Trade Center address.
- Historical Notes
- Born in London, England, Avnish Patel moved to the United States at age 11 to live with an uncle. As an adult, Avnish traveled the globe from Thailand to New Zealand but considered New York City home. He kept a photo he took of the Statue of Liberty on his desk at Fred Alger Management, where he was a research analyst. On September 11, Avnish was at work on the North Tower’s 93rd floor. He was 28 years old.
Curator's Comment
When hijacked Flight 11 pierced the North Tower and Flight 175 hit the South Tower, pieces of paper, some of them on fire, blew out of shattered windows. Some drifted onto lower Manhattan rooftops, balconies, and streets. Others were carried by wind for miles. After the towers collapsed, the area streets were covered in the paper debris. A page from a notepad belonging to Avnish Ramanbhai Patel, a research analyst for Fred Alger Management, landed on a rooftop five blocks away from the North Tower.
