- Port Authority of New York and New Jersey business card for Pablo Ortiz. The business card identifies Pablo Ortiz as the Construction Inspector, WTC Construction Division, at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at the World Trade Center. The card is wrinkled and creased.

- Native New Yorker Pablo Ortiz lived in Rossville, Staten Island, with his wife, Edna. He had two children from a previous marriage. Once a U.S. Navy Seal, he ironed his clothes with military precision. Pablo was a construction superintendent at the Port Authority. On September 11, he evacuated coworkers on the North Tower’s 88th floor, then headed to higher floors and helped others. Pablo was 49 years old.
Curator's Comment
Business cards were ubiquitous survivors of the 9/11 attacks. Among those in the Museum’s collection, most were found in recovered wallets and pocketbooks, or retrieved from the paper debris that fell from the towers. Their variety is indicative of the multiplicity of companies and activities anchored at the World Trade Center.
Victims’ relatives and employees of businesses formerly located at the World Trade Center have also donated pristine business cards found at home or in jacket pockets after September 11, 2001. Such cards were often retained as souvenirs of the destroyed landmark or as evidence that placed loved ones at the World Trade Center. Business cards tied to passengers aboard the hijacked aircrafts were also found at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon crash site, and in the impact area of Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
This particular business card was discovered on the windowsill of a Brooklyn apartment on September 11, 2001.
