- Adidas brand short-sleeved soccer jersey belonging to Sergio Gabriel Villanueva. The jersey for the Argentina national football team has light blue and white vertical stripes and a black collar. On the left breast is a gold and blue embroidered logo with the abbreviation "AFA" for Argentine Football Association.

- Born in Bahía Blanca, Argentina, Sergio Gabriel Villanueva came to the United States in 1970. He lived in Flushing, Queens, with his fiancée, Tanya. Sergio cheered for Argentina’s soccer team and played on an FDNY team. Before joining the Fire Department in 2000, he had worked as an NYPD officer. On September 11, Firefighter Villanueva responded to the towers with Ladder Company 132. He was 33 years old.
Curator's Comment
On September 5, 2001, Sergio Villanueva cheered his home country of Argentina to a soccer victory. He cheered so hard that it took him three days to recover his voice, just in time to play for the FDNY soccer team in their match on September 9. The scoreboard read 0-0 as the game neared its end, but then Sergio scored the winning goal before the clock ran out. His fiancée later reflected that in his last week of life, Sergio “experienced his joy at its peak.”
