Corkscrew, Recovered
- Description
- Recovered pocket corkscrew belonging to Lorraine G. Bay. The corkscrew is slightly rusty and tarnished with two pieces of tape wrapped around the handle. Blue ink on both pieces of tape reads: "EWR." Other markings on the corkscrew in red and black ink are illegible. The circular tag attached to the corkscrew is the FBI inventory tag.
- Historical Notes
- Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lorraine G. Bay lived in East Windsor, New Jersey, with her husband, Erich. A flight attendant for United Airlines for 37 years, Lorraine was known for mentoring younger coworkers and for liberally giving presents and greeting cards. On September 11, after mailing cards to two ailing friends, Lorraine boarded Flight 93 en route to San Francisco. She was 58 years old.
Curator's Comment
Lorraine Bay, the senior flight attendant on board Flight 93, regularly carried a corkscrew in her apron for beverage service.
