- Historical Notes
- Native New Yorker James Gartenberg lived in Manhattan with his wife, Jill, who was pregnant, and their daughter. He served 12 years as president of the local alumni group for the University of Michigan, his alma mater. A real estate broker at Julien J. Studley, James had taken a job in midtown, and September 11 was to be his last day at the company’s 86th-floor North Tower offices. James was 35 years old.
