- Philadelphia Marathon medal belonging to William F. Fallon. The medal hangs from a red, white, and blue ribbon. One side of the medal features an embossed image of two runners and the text: "1996 | Philadelphia Marathon." The other side of the medal includes text that reads: "Presented by Mayor Edward G. Rendell Nov. 24, 1996."

- Yonkers, New York native William Fallon lived in Rocky Hill, New Jersey, with his wife, Brenda. The couple had raised a son. William took up running in his forties and was training for a half marathon in Philadelphia on September 16. On September 11, William, a Port Authority general manager, went to work on the North Tower’s 62nd floor. He was 53 years old.
Curator's Comment
William F. Fallon was an avid runner, having completed multiple marathons and half marathons. The Philadelphia marathon was one of his favorites.;By mile 11 of the 1998 Philadelphia Marathon, William Fallon and his friend Mick Porter realized that they had started too fast and were fading. Mick recalled that William made fun of Mick’s mosquito bites, making Mick laugh so hard that he forgot his aching muscles; both finished the race. William had started running after turning 40, completing the Philadelphia, New York City, and Marine Corps Marathons. In 2001, he dreamed of finishing the Paris Marathon and rewarding himself with a luxurious French dinner.
