- Plaque awarded posthumously to Lisa Marie Terry as the Michigan Quarter Horse Association's Member of The Year in 2001. The left side of plaque features an octagonal emblem for the Michigan Quarter Horse Association with the bust of a horse in the center and surrounding text at its border that reads: "Michigan Quarter Horse Association | Equus Fidelis." The upper-right side of the plaque contains a Stuart-Austin quartz clock and a small plaque below with text that reads: "Lisa Terry | Member of the Year 2001 | M.Q.H.A."
- Historical Notes
- Highland Park, Michigan, native Lisa Terry lived in Oakland Township. A veteran equestrian, Lisa sponsored an annual summer horse show and was elected Amateur Sportswoman of the Year in 1993. She spent summer 2001 looking for a new horse. A vice president for Marsh & McLennan in Michigan, on September 11, Lisa was at a meeting at the firm’s Manhattan offices high in the North Tower. She was 42 years old.
Curator's Comment
Lisa Terry learned to ride horses as a child and bought a horse as a teenager. Over the next two decades, she went on to raise and show horses and ride them with family and friends. In her late 30s, her growing responsibilities at Marsh & McLennan Companies brought increased travel, and she had to sell her horses. By summer 2001, missing her passion, she started looking for a new horse. After her death, the Michigan Quarter Horse Association honored Lisa with this plaque and an annual show in her memory.
