Baseball Cap

- Pixelated camouflage pattern baseball cap created in memory of Raymond Matthew Downey, Sr. The cap is off-white and light and dark gray. A graphic depicting an American flag appears on the front, surrounded by text that reads: "FDNY | SOC | 9-11-01." The United States Marine Corps emblem and an animal wearing a Rescue 2 fire helmet also appear on the front. The left side of baseball cap features an American flag graphic and the text "9-11-01" in red. The back of baseball cap features the text "Chief Ray Downey" in red.
- Historical Notes
- Queens native Raymond Downey lived in Deer Park, Long Island, with his wife, Rosalie. They had raised five children. A former U.S. Marine and 39-year FDNY veteran, Raymond was an expert on building collapses and had responded to the bombing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1995. He led the FDNY’s Special Operations Command. On September 11, Battalion Chief Downey responded to the towers. He was 63 years old.
