Handwritten note left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Renee Barrett-Arjune.The note was written on the back of a printed kiosk Memorial map and reads:
"Hate is too great a burden to bear. I will stick with love. | I was with you in your hospital room a few days before you died. You taught me that life is too short to hate—all that we have left that gives life is love. We love you, Renee." - Historical Notes
- Raised in Brooklyn, Renee Barrett-Arjune lived in Irvington, New Jersey, with her partner, Enez, and her teenage son. A member of the Metropolitan Community Church of New York, Renee worked as a compensation accountant at Cantor Fitzgerald, in offices near the top of the North Tower. On September 11, Renee was severely burned while evacuating the building. She died a month later. Renee was 41 years old.
Curator's Comment
This note was left on the N-48 parapet of the North Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Renee Barrett-Arjune on September 11, 2014. The note was folded and placed in the hollow of the name.
