Handwritten note left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Jose Nicolas De Pena. The note was written on part of a name rubbing sheet and reads:
"Dear Brother, Out of everyone, only I come visit you. You probably think I'll be the last one since I was so young at the time. Just want you to know that I will forever visit you and remain in my heart. Your family is well taken care of thanks to you. I love you. Love [name illegible] De Pena | Your baby sister loves you!" - Historical Notes
- Jose De Pena was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to the United States in 1992, settling in New York City. He had two young children. Jose worked at Windows on the World. On September 11, he was at the restaurant on the 106th floor of the North Tower. Jose was 42 years old.
Curator's Comment
This note was left on the N-69 parapet of the North Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Jose Nicolas De Pena on September 11, 2014. The note was partially torn, folded and placed in the hollow of the name.
